Race Relations Act 1976 and Race Relations (Amendments) Act 2000 and 2003

The Race Relations Act 1976 provides protection from racial discrimination, either direct or indirect, in the fields of housing, employment, education and the provision of goods, facilities and services. The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 went further, by prohibiting race discrimination in all public functions. The Race Relations Act 1976 (Amendment) Regulations 2003 enhanced the Race Relations Act by amending the definition of indirect discrimination and changing the way in which the burden of proof applies, as well as removing a number of exceptions from the legislation.
