Disabled Persons Act 1944-1986/ Chronically Sick and Disabled Act 1970. Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000
The Disabled Persons (Employment) Act 1944 and 1958 aimed to improve the employment rights and opportunities of people with disabilities and impairments. The Disabled Persons Act 1986 strengthens the provisions of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and requires Local Authorities to assess, aim to meet, monitor and review the various needs of disabled people. The Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000 gives local councils the power to supply certain services direct to carers, following assessment.
Further legislation for Carers, the Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004, came into force in Wales in April 2005. This Act gives carers new rights to information e.g. the Carers Assessment.
