Care Standards Act 2000
The Care Standards Act 2000 reformed the inspection and regulatory system for care services in the UK, including children's homes, independent hospitals, nursing homes, residential care homes and boarding schools.
From the 1st of April 2009, a new organisation called the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will be responsible for regulating health care and social care in Wales and England. The CQC was established by the Health and Social Care Act 2008
The CQC will bring together the work of
the Commission for Social Care Inspection;
the Healthcare Commission;
the Mental Health Act Commission.
